Tournament Prep
What to Put in Your Bat Bag (Beyond the Obvious)
Every player has the basics. Bat, helmet, glove, cleats. But the players who show up ready for a full tournament weekend — three games Saturday, two Sunday, 95 degrees — have something else in their bag. Here's the list that separates prepared from underprepared.
The Hydration Stack
This is the most overlooked category in any bat bag. A water bottle is not a hydration strategy. A prepared player carries electrolyte sticks they can mix on the go — no cooler required, no bulky bottles. One stick per game minimum on tournament days.
The Recovery Kit
Snacks matter. Protein bars, trail mix, something with carbs that doesn't require refrigeration. The players who crash between games are the ones who didn't fuel between games. Pack for the full day, not just first pitch.
The Mental Game Gear
Batting gloves, pine tar, wristbands — these aren't accessories, they're routine anchors. Players who have a physical routine perform better under pressure. The bag is part of the preparation.
